Sketches of Imagination: Unveiling the Outline Drawings of Our Visual Novel Character Cast

Hey everyone, today we are showing you the completed outlining of the demo cast for our visual novel.

After three months of studying a udemy course I was able to jump into action and start drawing each of these. What you see here are of course the early stages of their creation.

What was most challenging in this process was having the main character as a child and the rest of the cast adults. Their eyes had to appear like they were looking in the main characters direction no matter what position they were at in the visual novel.

What was also important during this process was taking our old character art concepts and incorporating them into this new style and genre. Originally our project was going to be deployed using RPG Maker MV. So some of the physical character traits came all the way from the sprite generated characters back in 2016! Features like hair style for example definitely made it over to these versions. But a few of the characters here are not from the original concepts. The two in the very middle are actually new concepts and are based on easter eggs we thought would be fun for players if they were familiar with their origin (and that’s all I am going to say so it’s not spoiled!).

The udemy course that was taken really helped a lot with this process. I was able to draw each of these from scratch and by looking at reference photos for certain poses.

Thanks for checking it out!
